August 2018RS Council Study Guide

Dear Sisters,

Below you will find the Study Guide for our Relief Society Council this Sunday.  I can't wait to hear your thoughts and inspirations that you have this week.

August RS Council:
"Comparison is the thief of joy."
Having the courage to be imperfect.

Why should we not compare ourselves to others?

Elder J. Devyn Cornish said in his talk, “Am I Good Enough?  Will I Make it?” (October 2016 General Conference, Ensign, November 2016): “Sometimes when we attend church, we become discouraged even by sincere invitations to improve ourselves. We think silently, “I can’t do all these things” or “I will never be as good as all these people.” Please, my beloved brothers and sisters, we must stop comparing ourselves to others. We torture ourselves needlessly by competing and comparing. We falsely judge our self-worth by the things we do or don’t have and by the opinions of others. If we must compare, let us compare how we were in the past to how we are today—and even to how we want to be in the future. The only opinion of us that matters is what our Heavenly Father thinks of us. Please sincerely ask Him what He thinks of you. He will love and correct but never discourage us; that is Satan’s trick.”

If possible, watch or familiarize yourself with the movie “Wreck-It Ralph”.  Pay special attention to the storyline of Vanellope von Schweetz.  Think about the following:  What is YOUR Super Power?

Does the Savior expect us to be perfect now?

Study the talk by Jeffrey R. Holland, “Be Ye Therefore Perfect…Eventually” (October 2017 General Conference, Ensign, November 2017)

For an enlightening examination of the meaning of the Greek word used in the New Testament for perfect (“teleios”), see President Russell M. Nelson’s October 1995 general conference address Perfection Pending” (Ensign, Nov. 1995, 86–87).

Have a great week!
