RS Challenge for Week of July 22, 2018

Dear Sisters,

Since we will be having our 5th Sunday Instruction this Sunday, this challenge will actually be for 2 weeks.  So you will have until August 5th to work on this challenge and see what you notice.

We discussed Ministering as the Savior does this past Sunday.  It was really neat to see how well the talks in Sacrament Meeting went along with our Relief Society ministering topic.  We talked a lot about those talks and the quote on the program cover by Sister Linda K. Burton:  "First Observe, Then Serve."  It was this quote and the talks from Sacrament Meeting that inspired us to come up with the following challenge for this week:

Challenge:  This week I can see the need and do it.

We hope you have a fabulous week, and we can't wait to see what you notice during these 2 weeks as you work on this challenge.

All our love,
The Relief Society Presidency

Study Guide for July 22, 2018--Lesson & Discussion

The following will help you prepare for our Lesson and Discussion on July 22, 2018.

"Ministering Is Motivated by Christlike Love"

When I truly love the people I serve, I _______________________________.

When I serve for other reasons, I __________________________________.

What does it mean to minister with Christlike love?

Can you think of scriptural examples of Christ's ministering?  (John 4-6 and Mark 2:1-12 might give you some ideas.)

Read and be prepared to discuss Moroni 7:45-48.

How do we develop Christlike love for those to whom we are assigned to minister?

What can we do to ensure that our ministering is motivated by Christlike love?

Have a great week!

Study Guide for July 15, 2018--Lesson & Discussion

The following will help you prepare for our Lesson and Discussion on July 15, 2018.

1.  Elder L. Tom Perry taught: “The influence of the adversary is so widespread and he is attacking, attempting to erode and destroy the very foundation of our society, even the family. Parents must resolve that teaching in the home is a most sacred and important responsibility” (“Mothers Teaching Children in the Home,” Ensign or Liahona, May 2010, 30).

2.  The First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles have taught: “Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children.  ‘Children are an heritage of the Lord’ (Psalm 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, and to teach them to love and serve one another, observe the commandments of God, and be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations” (“The Family: A Proclamation to the World,” Ensign or Liahona, May 2017, 145).

3.  Read the following scriptures:

D&C 93:40; 3 Nephi 18:21; D&C 84:85; D&C 11:21; Alma 32:28-43; 1 Timothy 11:12; and 3 Nephi 27: 21, 27.

4.  Brother Durrant mentions 5 ways that we teach in the home:  Family Home Evening Teaching, Family Prayer Teaching, On-Call Teaching, Family Scripture Study Teaching, and Example Teaching.  Why are each of these equally important when teaching our children and grandchildren?

5.  How can Christlike teaching make a difference in the lives of your children and grandchildren?

6.  What can you do to always be “on call”?

7.  Elder David A. Bednar said: “Today if you could ask our adult sons what they remember about family prayer, scripture study, and family home evening, I believe I know how they would answer. They likely would not identify a particular prayer or a specific instance of scripture study or an especially meaningful family home evening lesson as the defining moment in their spiritual development. What they would say they remember is that as a family we were consistent” (“More Diligent and Concerned at Home, Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2009, 19).

8.  Why is important to be consistent in our teaching in the home?
